Server vs Client

Must match exactly.

  • Update server: Startup > Game version dropdown (SteamCMD pulls latest).

  • Clients auto-update or manual via Steam. Mismatch: "Server version outdated" kicks.

Server vs Mod

Mods tie to server build.

  • Check mod page: "Rust 2026.1 compatible."

  • Update server first → test mods (console: version errors). Outdated mod? Disable/update.

Client vs Mod (Workshop)

Subscribe required.

  • Steam Workshop: Clients subscribe ModID (panel auto-manages server side).

  • Non-workshop: Manual client install matching server files.

Verification

  • Logs: "Mod mismatch" or kick reasons.
